Learning Nerd’s Diary #26 👁
Hi folks!
Welcome back to the Learning Nerd’s Diary.
This week’s edition is powered by Figma to some degree - ended up spending a lot of time visualising things. Let’s check them out shall we?
The Learning Jetpack
My 7th grade History class was my favourite class in school. Calling that one year we spent with her a History ‘class’ would really be a disservice because it was so much more -
We spent one afternoon hearing the narration of a bustling market in Mughal India - eyes closed and imaginations running wild
Our homework was to design the armour of Razia Sultan - unlike everything else in school, there were no wrong answers here
One assignment was to write a first person account of a foot soldier in Allaudin Khilji’s army. I remember using my grandfather’s typewriter for this - hands hurting like crazy but proud of the end outcome
Looking back, that one year made History visible and tangible. You can adopt these strategies to learn and teach pretty much anything.

Coolest Things I Learnt This Week
Mental Highway: I was thinking the other day how our brain is like a highway. Just like cars on a highway, we have thoughts going from one place to another.
Sometimes when we start learning something, it feels like we’re in the middle of the highway - articles, words not making any sense. But as we learn more about it, things start making more sense. So the next time you learn something? Don’t give up when you feel like you’re in the middle of the highway.

Spaced Chill: For years I’ve stuck to the school timetable - chunking my days into 2 parts - work time & chill time - with intermittent breaks only for food. It’s worked for me so far and I didn’t seem the need to move away from it really.
Last week unconsciously, I tried something different - I interspersed work time and chill time throughout the day and the results were amazing! I not only felt more productive by the end of the week but also felt more relaxed at the end of the day. How do you plan your day?
Back on the mat: I injured my back last month. I was advised to not workout for some time - my worst nightmare! Exercising has been a constant part of my mornings for many years now. It’s something that keeps me sane among all the crazies in life - so I try to stick to it pretty religiously.
Over the last few weeks I started doing Yoga first and this week after a month-long hiatus, I was back to Crossfit and boy it felt good! Reminded me of his quote I came across while reading The Almanack of Naval -
