Learning Nerd’s Diary #11 👶
Hi folks!
Welcome back to the the Learning Nerd’s Diary.
I’m writing this edition from the capital (Random bourgeois way to say New Delhi - Don’t ask me why). Back home after 6 months and it feels good! Brace yourself for all the food pictures that will follow shortly - you have been warned.
Baby is Delivered
The first edition of Learning Design for the <REAL> World is done! We had a small cohort of 9 folks who attended the 90 mins session last Saturday. At the beginning of last week Ragini (my co-host) & I were scared if we will be able to fill up the seats.
Come Thursday evening, we were pleasantly surprised to have sold out! And if I may just brag, we even had enquiries for more. While the perfectionist in me can think of many things that could have been better but after months of work it feels so good to actually put something out in the world. Here is a peep into the session(working on the video - will be out soon!) -
Coolest Things I Learnt This Week
Art vs Craft: Growing up I loved doing craft but I hated art classes. Most art classes were structured in a way where you had to copy a drawing. The person who could replicate the drawing shown by the teacher was a ‘good student’. Similar to school, art classes were spaces where there was one right answer.
Craft on the other hand - was something I dabbled with on my own. Sure I used to look up books and instructions but they were all inspiration. Quilling could be made into beads or a painting or even a rakhi. I loved that by the end of it, I could make it my own - a switch in colour or a different application.
Being against a wall: When was the last time you felt like you’ve given your all to build something? My sister, Sidika and I were talking about on the trek to the Bangalore airport.
We were talking about how ‘your all’ is such a subjective thing. It’s like lifting weights, I could feel like I’m dying lifting a 12kg dumbbell and that might be a piece of cake for someone else. The other debate was whether this ‘passion’ for things was the way things should be or if this is another glorification of the hustle culture?
On Crying: So crying has a bad rep (Source below) - and I am not just saying this because I cry (quite a bit). It’s something that helps me process things better - most people don’t understand this though. For me crying is just another emotion. It doesn’t mean I’m sad, just means I am overwhelmed with emotion - and there are much worse ways to process that.
And hey, I’m not alone -
