Learning Nerd’s Diary #18 🐒
Hi folks!
Welcome back to the the Learning Nerd’s Diary.
It’s been a hectic but inspiring week. I spent the week settling in my role at NextLeap and was prepping for the DesignxLearning workshop we were doing over the weekend. The week was fuelled by people, coffee and adrenalin (in that order!). I honestly won’t have it any other way :)
Came across this in this week’s The Maker Mind newsletter and it’s honestly the best explanation of my week -
But it's the good kind of busy; the kind that makes you feel excited, driven, curious about the future. Of course, it's a fine line between "happy busy" and "burned out busy", so I'm paying special attention to all the little signs that I'm stretching myself too thin.
Jenga vs Jigsaw Learning
“I will call you when I decide to make it, you tell me the then.”
I overheard my sister telling this to my mom the other day in reference to a recipe mom was explaining to her. Moving to Bangalore meant learning how to make a lot of nostalgic home food.
Her words stuck with me because of its connection to learning. She wanted to learn the recipe just in time. Such a contrast to most traditional systems that make you learn just in case.
There are two ways of learning - Jenga Learning and Jigsaw Learning.

Coolest Things I Learnt This Week
Learning for the <REAL> World: Ragini & I facilitated the second edition of the ‘Learning for the <REAL> World’ workshop last Saturday. From development to start-ups to academics - the workshop had an interesting set of folks attending. And while we were facilitating the workshop, there was so much we learnt in the process - hmmm, maybe time to write about this!
One of our participants Madhu captured people in their element during the workshop -
How to Tame your Monkey Brain: I went from trying to constantly think of what to write about to consistently publishing 2 articles every week. Publishing regularly is more than just being a good writer, it's about creating an efficient system to retrieve ideas and thoughts.
For years I was a big advocate of the writing camp. I would fill up notebook after notebook. I loved writing and it’s something that is still my go-to if I need to think through something. But, the 20+ dusty notebooks I’ve filled just in the past year is testament to how writing in notebooks is not very retrievable.

Sharing is Reflecting: Even though it’s been a busy week, I found myself waking up on a Sunday morning (reasonably early if I might add) eager to write about it. Sharing in any shape or form is reflecting.
During multiple conversations this week I found myself thinking, and almost leaving the conversations with more fodder, ideas and thoughts than I entered! Have you felt this too?
That's it for this week folks, see you around!
Do you find yourself eating more when you’re doing more thinking?
This week saw a lot of that! Food for Thought eh?
