Learning Nerd’s Diary #09 🍓
Hi folks!
Welcome back to the the Learning Nerd’s Diary.
It’s been an uninspiring week on the work front but I’m sitting with a bowl of fresh strawberries (my favourite fruit) as I write this and it’s all good. Just a reminder that if you’re sad, there will be something you can eat that will make you feel better. Strawberries definitely are one of those things for me, what is your comfort food?
Making Babies
No it’s not what you think. I’m talking about idea babies and not human ones. 4 years back, I had quite my job at Quicksand and decided to work independently. During that time I was thinking about the intersection of design and learning and my practice around it. Since then it has been something I have only intermittently worked on. Earlier this year, my friend Ragini and I started working on it over the weekends. It’s taken quite a bit of mental walk but we finally have something to share with the world!
Presenting, Learning Design for the <REAL> World - a 90 mins workshop we’re doing next week on how to design learning that speaks to the practical. If you know folks who might find this interesting do share this with them. Here are more details on the same: https://www.designxlearning.com/
Coolest Things I Learnt This Week
“Main bhi blogger”: The title is Hindi for “I am a blogger too”. I finished 30 days of writing where I wrote an atomic essay everyday for 30 days. The last month has seen crazy work weeks, travelling to meet H and everything else that comes with life - but I’m so happy to have finished this!
I have questioned if anyone was reading and I have been uncomfortable writing & sharing about something personal but writing everyday almost became cathartic. Still wondering if I want to continue this as Atomic Essays or something else altogether. If you have ideas do holler!
Oh, and here is where you can find all the essays. Happy Reading!
Constraints are not bad: Last week, I was having a conversation with a colleague about a project. He was taking about trying to solve a problem without any constrains of money, resources etc and for the life of me, I was not able to wrap my head around it.
As a designer you learn to embrace constraints. Even in the kitchen, some of my best food has come out of very strict constraints - resource or food preference-wise. So constraints are bad, they just are. They help you design better, be sharper and be more innovative.
Rest & Recharge: This weekend I took out some time for myself after a really long time. I slept in late, didn’t plan anything, met up family & friends and just watched some stuff. I realised just how much I was missing this. R&R, alone time, weekend - whatever you may call it, that space is sacred. Sometimes in the midst of work and life we end up not prioritising it. Lesson for the week - preserve it!
