Two Sides of Learning

There are two sides of learning: the Mirror and the Window.

The Mirror is focussed on internalising learning. Being able to make sense of something you have learnt in your context and connect it with your past experiences. Reflection puts your learning in front of a mirror.

The Window is the opposite. Instead of internalising learning, you put it out there. You share what you’ve learnt with others β€” letting it spark conversation and debate. Sometimes this helps you deepen your learning and other times it helps reveal how much you still need to learn.

Most learning experiences stop at the Mirror. This often makes learning unidimensional - helping people understand it only in one context.

The Window can seem daunting while you’re learning, but solidifies learning.

A good learning experience? One that has both Mirrors and Windows.
