Lessons from my Dog (Atomic Essay Day 20)

Shuffle, our dog completed 11 years at home recently. Here are some lessons the old dog has taught me -

  1. Be excited for everything.
You're back home after 2 mins = excitement. Evening walk = excitement. Eggs and bread = excitement.
Adult humans are quite conservative with our excitement. Dogs are the opposite.
    But excitement = happiness.

  2. Words are overrated.
I can say sorry for breaking something, be excited on a happy occasion and console on the death of a loved one.
It's absolutely amazing how much Shuffle is able to communicate without ever speaking a simple word. We have it easy we can articulate, clarify and ask and yet we don't communicate effectively.

  3. Persistence is Powerful.
Hate dogs? Just pat my head. Scared of dogs? I don't bite. Won't give me cake? Let me see how!
It's amazing the amount of behaviour change Shuffle has managed to bring in people in the last 11 years. From changing people's perception of dogs to getting his own way - he is a living example of the power of persistence.

  4. Vibes are a thing.
You show love, you get love. You show anger, you get anger. You show apathy, you get apathy.
We feed off each other's energies without realising it. One of the biggest lessons from Shuffle is how our relationships are a reflection of what we give it.

  5. Love all.
Scold me? I love you. Disappear for 6 months? I still love you. Don't share ice cream with me? I STILL love you.
We talk about loving selflessly but I've seen Shuffle take it to a whole different level altogether. We have too many expectations from people and too many ifs and buts.
