Learning Nerd’s Diary #25 🏳

Hi folks!

Welcome to the Silver Jubilee Edition of the Learning Nerd’s Diary.

25 weeks - wow! Almost can’t believe it myself. Thank you for being here on this milestone. Without further ado…

Two Sides of Learning

There are two sides of learning: the Mirror and the Window. Most learning experiences stop at the Mirror. This often makes learning unidimensional - helping people understand it only in one context. The Window can seem daunting while you’re learning, but helps in solidifying learning.

A good learning experience? One that has both Mirrors and Windows.

Coolest Things I Learnt This Week

Conversational Prototyping: Conversations are the currency for a user researcher. As researchers, we talk to people to discover, to understand, to test and most importantly to learn. Everything we do boils down to how well we’re able to have conversations.

Over the last few weeks, I have witnessed the power of conversations in building ideas and solving problems. I wrote about 3 such examples. Check it out here

On Time & Happiness: Coincidently a lot of by brain diet this week was around happiness. An episode of The Happiness Lab podcast talks about this idea of a time wrt happiness. A time famine makes us less happy and time affluence makes us more happy. I saw this in action this week -

Achievement of the week for me was that I stopped giving into the urge to sleep in and got up at 6:30a for most of the week. The idea was to get a couple of hours to myself to workout, meditate and just think before the work day officially starts. Just something as small as this, made me feel so much happier throughout the day. I felt like I was owning my time and not the other way around.

Have you found any connections between happiness and time?

Weekend State of Mind: After what seems like forever, I had a proper weekend. I wasn’t working, took afternoon naps, binge watched a new K Drama, met up old friends, had meals at weird times and got a massage done. It’s Sunday evening as I write this and I feel so rejuvenated!

I recently came across an article which outlined the 7 types of rest every person needs - this weekend was definitely a check on almost all kinds of rest for me! Check out the article and hey, a reminder for you to hit pause too - never hurts you know.

That's it for this week folks, see you around!

I have been OBSESSING over this song for over a month!
Just a little silver jubilee treat for you guys :)
