Learning Nerd’s Diary #14 🎢

Hi folks!

Welcome back to the the Learning Nerd’s Diary.

This week felt like a year! I went back to office after a 2 week hiatus, partied on a Monday, caught a stomach bug, slept for 12+ hours at a stretch, wrote 2 articles in a day and had a long weekend. Phew!

Learning About Learning

The world of learning has been on a rollercoaster ride this past year. Besides eliciting extreme emotions from learners and facilitators globally, learning has seen unprecedented growth this past year. As a designer of learning experiences, I have witnessed some of these changes from the front row of this ride. And in an effort to make sense of it, I am going to start documenting and sharing some things I am thinking about through a new series - Learning About Learning.

Three years back I started writing a series with the same name (here is the first parent if you’re curious). where I published 3 articles - so this is more a resurrection but in a different avatar.

The first one is on why learning is incredibly hard. Check it out here.

Coolest Things I Learnt This Week

Chasing Clarity: Growing up I used to hate long drives. Long drives meant playing 20 questions with my parents -

  • "What do you want to do when you grow up?"

  • "What colleges are there?"

  • "What is the admission process?"

  • "How many seats do they have?"

As a 13 year old, I didn't have an answer to these questions and that made me uncomfortable. Retrospectively, these conversations taught me how important it is to seek clarity. Saying no to something is the first step to say yes to something else.

Building > Thinking: This tweet made me go back to that one night in June this year. I sat up and finished writing the first edition of the Learning Nerd’s Diary. It seemed stupid, vulnerable and scary all at once. But now we’re on the 14th edition & I can’t wait for the next 50!

I also came across another video by the famous designer John Maeda who talking about thinking and making in a different manner. Just leaving with you with these two things and giving you a small reminder - go build that ship.

Back to Basics: After a 2 week workcation in Delhi, this week was a lot of settling back into the groove of things here in Bangalore. Back to cooking 3 meals a day, sunset chai on the balcony, tablet weaving and all the other madness that comes along with running your own house. Irrespective, feels really nice to be back.

Here is a photo dump of the past week:

That's it for this week folks, see you around!

Actually one sec, before you go.

Just incase you’re confused how this is out on a Monday - switching up the cadence of this a little bit. You’ll hear from me every Monday on the Learning Nerd’s Diary and every Friday on Learning about Learning.

I hate how much I love this song. Thanks Yash (not!)
