Learning Nerd’s Diary #02 🌴
Hi folks!
Welcome back to the the Learning Nerd’s Diary.
Was thinking about this entry the entire week and had quite a bit of performance pressure because of it - kept thinking if what I was doing was interesting enough to make it here. As this becomes more a part of my routine, I guess that feeling will change.
Digital safe space
Jokes apart, I’m super pumped to have a space to share all the things I do. I’ve been calling this new website my ‘digital home’ (Sorry for all the cheese!)
I was off work the whole week so tried to spend time trying out a bunch of new things. My folks were over for a few days from Delhi and was meeting them after some time - so all in all quite a packed week for a vacation!
Coolest Things I Learned This Week
Yesterday - the last time I learnt something for the first time: I signed myself up for a table weaving workshop that a friend was organising. Tablet weaving or card weaving is an ancient technique to weave thin belts with some kind of yarn. I absolutely fell in love with the craft and the ease at which you could create something. Needless to say, my warp and weft also sat through movies with my folks - much to everyone’s disappointment.
I have always loved doing things with my hands, it was my love for craft is what got me to study design in the first place. Alas long Zoom meetings are never going to be the same again! Here is my favourite weave from the week -
Dolce far niente: This is Italian for pleasant idleness or ‘the sweetness of doing nothing’. This pretty much sums up my last week.
I’m a sucker for routine and habits. I’m that annoying person that will calendarise my daily routines, try to work out on vacation - you get the gist. But this past week not planning anything (except the workshop - sorry can’t help myself!) and just going with the flow has really helped me slow down, unwind and reflect. Time to calendarise this half year break too! Haha
Nurture >> Nature: The funniest thing happened this week. The minute my folks reached my house in Bangalore, my dad unpacked his whole suitcase and put all his clothes it in my cupboard. This ‘encroachment’ took less than 5 minutes and everyone has a nice laugh about it. Later that evening, I was talking my partner, H - only to be pointed out that I do exactly the same thing when we travel.
That's it for this week folks, see you around!
Here is a visualisation of me at work this week!
