Designing for K12 in India - Lessons Learnt the Hard Way
1/ The complex character plot will put Game of Thrones to shame
Students, parents, teachers - irrespective of what problem youβre trying to solve for, you will have to end up thinking about all these three stakeholders.
2/ Education works with the (ir)regularity of a period
Academic years are cyclic in nature which brings a certain seasonality to the industry. And every year, the same easy comfort at the beginning turns into panic and fear before the exams.
3/ The learning game of jenga often comes crashing down
Like you learn alphabets before you learn how to make sentences, our curriculum is built on top of each across grades. This leads to cumulative learning gaps which are hard to diagnose and fix in the long term.
4/ Newtonβs Learning's first law of inertia
Unfortunately, mainstream schooling has not changed much. To add to this the feedback loop is years (if not decades) making it harder to change user behaviours and mindsets.
5/ Digital fluency is not everyone's cup of tea
While the pandemic has accelerated the onset of technology in the industry, digital fluency is not uniform even in urban settings.
6/ Schools rule (over lives)
Schools drive the lives of students and their parents. Their influence extends way beyond learning - seeping into everyday lives, decisions and behaviours.
